Between April and June 2021, the museo de la democracia<\/strong> opened its temporary collection and public program. The mission of this fictitious institution was to preserve, exhibit and mediate the concept of democracy as if it were a phenomenon of the past or an endangered species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museum’s current presentation is divided into three chapters:
1) Plaza del Kiosco [Kiosk Square]
2) Departamento de Oportunismo y Oportunidades [Department of Opportunism and Opportunities]
3) Oficina de Sue\u00f1os [Office of Dreams]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museo de la democracia<\/strong> reflects in its \ncollection and exhibition practice on the aesthetic independence and \npolitical co-dependence of Latin American countries in relation to \ndifferent cultural, historical, and political discourses and narratives.\n The museum’s work focuses on a period that roughly spans from the \npre-Columbian past to the Bolivarian call for liberation, through to the\n triumph of the \u203asocieties of control\u2039 (Gilles Deleuze). The mission of \nthe museum is to examine, in a non-linear and historical-fictional way, \nthe gradual process of \u203aerosion\u2039 or \u203aemptying-out\u2039 of the concept of \n\u203ademocracy\u2039 and its institutions. The museo de la democracia<\/strong>\n presents works and collaborations that lead to incommunicable, \nfabulous, telluric, dreamlike, and necessarily critical perspectives of \ndemocratic processes in perpetual reformulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration with artists, theorists, activists, museologists and\n other actors, the museum presents a collection of 23 works that seek to\n preserve, interpret and exhibit relics of the memory of a \npost-democratic society. The museography radiates from the \u203aPlaza del \nKiosco\u2039 \u2013 \u203akiosk square\u2039 \u2013 where videos, books, different publications \nare provided, as well as a program based on forms of knowledge \nproduction that extend into talks, video projections, performances, \nreadings, and workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The museo de la democracia<\/strong> is a guest institution at the nGbK for almost two months. Within a transdisciplinary dramaturgy, connections are created between historical and theoretical research material. This dramaturgy is a hybrid between the analogue and the digital, the public and the exhibition space, the real and the fictional. It thematizes events from Latin America’s recent history and present \u2013 which echo and mirror global realities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
